ISLAMABAD: The deadline for the transfer of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital is set to expire at midnight, as the government has yet to move him despite directions issued by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court had directed the government to transfer Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital within the stipulated period following a petition filed by PTI concerning his medical treatment and transfer.
The government subsequently filed a review petition challenging the hospital-transfer decision. However, the Supreme Court reportedly rejected the government’s review petition after raising objections to it.
So far, the government has not filed a fresh petition seeking to delay or overturn the transfer order, while Imran Khan has also not been shifted to Shifa International Hospital.
The deadline is expected to expire at 12 midnight tonight, putting the government under increasing pressure to comply with the court’s directions.
PTI lawyers are expected to approach the Supreme Court if Imran Khan is not transferred within the deadline and may initiate contempt of court proceedings against the government for alleged non-compliance with the court’s order.
The situation is being closely watched, with attention now focused on whether the government will transfer Imran Khan before the deadline expires or seek further legal relief from the Supreme Court.
